Is tailgating allowed on gameday?
Tailgating is permitted in the Broadview and the Dutch Quad parking lots, only. The University at Albany promotes community building activities for its student, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors, and recognizes that tailgating is a time honored tradition at sporting events and other events on college and university campuses. Tailgating has the potential to enhance an event experience within a safe, responsible
and controlled environment.
What time do the Broadview and Dutch Quad parking lots open for tailgating?
Tailgating parking lots will open four (4) hours prior to the start of the contest. Tailgating must discontinue 15 minutes prior to the start of the contest and tailgating lots must be cleaned and fully vacated within 90 minutes following the conclusion of the event. New York State Law does not permit overnight parking on SUNY campuses. No overnight parking will be permitted the night before or the night following the game.
Can I bring my own alcohol to my tailgate?
Consistent with the University’s Policy on Alcohol, alcohol is permitted to be consumed in the tailgating area by individuals who are 21 or older, consistent with NYS law. All alcohol laws shall be strictly enforced; open container laws (Town of Guilderland and City of Albany) shall be strictly enforced outside of the tailgating area. For tailgaters that consume alcohol, the University encourages the tailgaters to drink responsibly by serving food and nonalcoholic beverages, and by having designated drivers to accommodate guests and hosts alike.
Are glass containers and kegs allowed?
Glass containers and kegs are prohibited. Bulk containers, including, but not limited to kegs and beer balls, are prohibited. Drinking game tables or other paraphernalia, including, but not limited to beer pong tables, are prohibited. All drinks should be placed in plastic/disposable cups.
Can I grill while tailgating?
Propane grills with cylinders 20 lbs. or under are allowed. Charcoal grills are also permitted but must be disposed of responsibly by dousing the charcoals with water, and emptying them into the labeled metal receptacles provided by the University within the tailgating area. Open flames are not permitted in any tailgate or parking area.
May I set up a tent at my tailgate?
Tents or canopies (which may not exceed 10’ x 10’) are permitted. They must be secured and may not obstruct fire/safety lanes, sidewalks, drive lanes, pedestrian walkways or other parking spots. These structures must be an extension of your vehicle. Tailgating amenities including furniture, grills, generators or satellite dishes; these also may not obstruct fire/safety lanes, sidewalks, drive lanes, pedestrian walkways or other parking spots. Driving or parking private vehicles on any and all green spaces and sidewalks is prohibited.
